Deans Selections & Reviews
The Provost and Vice-President (Academic) has administrative responsibility for the selection and review of Deans. Recommendations on the appointment and reappointment of Deans are made to the President.
Freedom of Expression
The University of Alberta actively fosters an inclusive culture committed to the expression of, exposure to, and debate of diverse points of view. Our campuses are forums for rigorous debate. Our work and study excel through exchange and collaboration. Our discourses and discoveries are enriched by the diversity of individuals, groups, disciplines, perspectives, approaches, and questions that characterize our community.
Program Changes & Approvals
The Provost & Vice-President (Academic) supports faculties with program assessments as well as in moving program proposals through required approval processes.
Quality Assurance
High quality teaching and research programs are a hallmark of the University of Alberta. The institution is committed to a rigorous quality assurance program that both maintains and builds upon the existing strengths of the U of A's academic units and faculties.
Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response
The University of Alberta is working to further address sexual and gender-based violence by taking a number of steps that will strengthen prevention and response efforts.
Provost’s Taskforce on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Learning Environment
A Provost's Taskforce on AI and the Learning Environment was created to foster conversation across the University of Alberta about generative artificial intelligence like ChatGPT. The Taskforce will provide recommendations on how best to deal with the opportunities and challenges of generative artificial intelligence in the learning environment.
Student Perspectives of Teaching (SPOT)
Students at the U of A provide their feedback on teaching and learning through a standardized survey which is designed to get their perspectives on their experiences of teaching. Effective July 1, 2023, students will use a survey with new questions, called Student Perspectives of Teaching, or SPOT.
