Campus unions call for continued childcare funding
28 March 2025
The PDFA and its four sister campus unions have sent an open letter of concern regarding the decision by the University of Alberta to end its financial support for the six university-affiliated childcare centres. These centres provide guaranteed spots to postdocs, students, staff, and faculty, as well as research and clinical observation opportunities for the campus community.
Supporting these centres, which costs the university roughly $300,000 annually, represents a minuscule proportion of the university's approximate $2.04 billion annual budget, but is a critical part of realizing the university's stated goal of creating "a vibrant and inclusive community where people at all levels thrive professionally and personally."
