Give to Physics
Geophysics Field School
The Department of Physics helps students translate classroom learning into real-world skills through initiatives such as the Geophysics Field School, a hands-on course that allows students to physically interact with the environment and practice the fundamentals of field research including geophysical data acquisition, processing, and interpretation. The Geophysics Field School helps students develop professionally by giving them practical experience, challenging their critical thinking skills, and providing them with training in fieldwork safety.
Give nowAstronomy Outreach
Astronomy is a science that easily captures the imagination of children and can serve as a gateway to help a child develop interests in all areas of science. Our outreach activities encourage young scientists to explore space science concepts through activities in hands-on rocketry, meteorites and crater impacts, spectral analysis, and the power of the sun.
The Department of Physics Astronomical Observatory is the only place in Edmonton where the public can view the sky through three telescopes at no cost. With more than 2,000 school children touring the facility year round, support for this program helps staff the Observatory, supports the repair of systems, and builds programming for the next generation of space scientists.
Give nowTheoretical Physics Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship
Created in 2016, the Theoretical Physics Institute (TPI) Postdoctoral Fellowship is aimed at supporting a recent PhD graduate in theoretical physics who demonstrates the potential for excellence in research. The fellowship aims to attract the highest quality candidates in Canada, and provides valuable hands on training to emerging scientists.
