In Memoriam: Dr. Frederick P. Van de Pitte

The Department of Philosophy is sorry to learn of the passing of our former colleague, Dr. Frederick P. Van de Pitte.

Frederick came to the University of Alberta 1966, when together with his wife Margaret, he joined our department after completing his PhD at the University of Southern California, with a dissertation on Kant’s anthropology. He published most extensively on Descartes and Kant during his 32-year career in our department, but his interests were wide ranging. An excellent raconteur, his good humour and jaunty manner lent a tone to department gatherings we have long missed. Our sympathies go out to his family.
