Edwin Etieyibo (PhD, Alberta), Associate Professor and Chair of Philosophy at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, named adjunct Professor of Philosophy at the U of A
Professor Etieyibo is originally from Delta State (formerly Bendel State) in Nigeria. He holds a BA (Honors) and an MA in philosophy as well as an MBA from the University of Lagos. He received his PhD from the University of Alberta in 2009 with a dissertation on David Gauthier's Moral Contractarianism and the Problem of Secession and specializes in ethics, social and political philosophy, global justice, and African philosophy.
Professor Etieyibo has published many articles, including "Postmodern Thinking and African Philosophy" (in Filosofia Theoretica), "Ubuntu, Cosmopolitanism, and Distribution of Natural Resources" (in Philosophical Papers) and "Substancehood in Locke, Spinoza, and Kant" (in Philosophia). He is the editor of Decolonisation, Africanisation and the Philosophy Curriculum (Routledge) and Method, Substance and the Future of African Philosophy (Palsgrave Macmillan) among others and co-author, with Odirin Omiegbe, of Disabilities in Nigeria: Attitudes, Reactions, and Remediation.
As an Adjunct Professor, Professor Etieyibo is able to serve as a member of MA and PhD examining committees, co-supervisor of MA and PhD theses, and second reader on Capstone projects.
