PHIL 386: Health Care Ethics
Instructor: Jennifer Welchman
Course Description:
In this course we will study how philosophical ethical theories, concepts, and principles are used to illuminate ethical dilemmas arising in contemporary healthcare. We will begin with an introduction to the special obligations health professionals have to clients and to society at large, as well as the philosophical ethical theories most influential in health care ethics. We will apply these to conflicts arising in real-world disputes; e.g, how to structure professional-client relationships, the allocation of scarce resources, end-of-life care, medical experimentation, and public health policy
