Graduate Student Awards Spring and Summer 2024

Medical Physics doctoral student Christopher Sedlock, supervised by Dr. Jonathan Sharp, was selected to receive the Andrew Stewart Memorial Graduate Prize, which recognizes outstanding accomplishment and potential in the pursuit of new knowledge. This award is given to doctoral students on the basis of 'originality of research and potential scholarly impact, and experience and contributions to research.' Congratulations Christopher!

Medical Physics resident Neil Johnson was awarded the "Interdisciplinary Teaching Award" from the U of A Radiation Oncology residency program. He was nominated by physician resident peers to honor notable contributions to Radiation Oncology resident education, including informal teaching and lectures/courses.

The department is proud to share that Gawon Han, a doctoral student in the Yun lab in Medical Physics, was recently awarded 2nd place for her oral presentation at the 70th annual scientific meeting of the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists, in June 2024. Gawon's abstract is entitled "Deep learning-based autocontouring algorithm for non-invasive intrafractional tumor-tracked radiotherapy (nifteRT) on Linac-MR. Congratulations, Gawon!

We are also very pleased to congratulate Angie Chen (Baker lab), in Cancer Sciences, on her recent success in the CIHR Doctoral awards competition.
