International Placements
Completing a clinical placement abroad can provide students with diversity in their learning by combining global education, cultural diversity and acquisition of clinical skills.
Limited opportunities are available for students with a strong academic and clinical history to participate in clinical placements outside of Canada. Many students find these international placements to be an enriching and life-changing experience, both on a professional and personal level.
When can I study abroad?
- Physical Therapy students can complete their fifth clinical placement in an international
- Occupational Therapy students can complete either or both of their advance Level 3 placements in an international setting.
- Communication Sciences & Disorders students can complete their final advanced clinical placement in an international setting.
If you are interesting in completing an international placement, attend the international placement meeting offered by your department and make an appointment to meet with your Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE). Then follow your department's procedures for requesting an international placement.
The following steps are required for all confirmed Rehabilitation Medicine students completing placements in an international setting:
- Read the UAI Education Abroad Handbook
- Register and complete the UAI Education Abroad Online Pre-Departure Orientation Workshops
- Register with the UGo Off-Campus Travel Registry
- Complete and submit the UAI Risk Management Agreement to your ACCE
- Submit a copy of your passport and travel itinerary to your ACCE
