Health and Immigration Policies and Practices (HIPP)


The Health and Immigration Policy and Practices Research Program (HIPP) seeks to address the decline in immigrant health, by focusing on the health of the most vulnerable groups of immigrants, including those with precarious migration status. Our research aims to inform policy innovations to address emergent issues concerning migrant health in an era of global displacement and forced movement.

Trainee Position Available

HIPP is currently interested in supporting postdoctoral trainees to apply for postdoctoral fellowships (especially with CIHR or SSHRC) for research projects in migration and health.


HIPP currently has opportunities for doctoral students at the University of Alberta or postdoctoral fellows to complete 3 to 6 months research internships in Ghana. Please email immigrant.health@ualberta.ca

Participants Needed

HIPP is currently recruiting individuals in the following categories to participate in research studies:


  1. African, Caribbean and Black youths (age 16 to 30) to participate in a study on mental health of African, Caribbean and Black youths
  2. African immigrant parents and children who are from single parent households or who have been separated and/or reunited to participate in a student on African immigrant child well-being
