There are many sources of information available to learn more about careers available as a Registered Nurse. Prospective students should also consider interviewing Registered Nurses, checking job postings available for Registered Nurses, speaking with potential employers, and visiting or volunteering at locations where Registered Nurses are employed to learn more about the realities of and opportunities in nursing.

- For UAlberta students, CAPS: Your U of A Career Centre can provide a variety of information about careers and the labour market. CAPS also carries a variety of books in their Career Resource Centre on the 2nd floor of the Students' Union Building regarding careers in nursing, and offers a variety of "Career Exploration Activities" to help students explore various career paths and make contacts in the community.
- For students in grade 11 in Alberta, CAREERS: The Next Generation offers a program called the Health Services Youth Initiative which provides students with the opportunity to explore careers in over 200 health care occupations through summer internships (Get Started).
