Showcasing Honors Student Research at the Faculty of Native Studies

Over the 2017-2018 academic year, students from the Faculty of Native Studies NS 498 Honors course have been working hard on major research projects. On April 4th, they were given the opportunity to present their work at a student colloquium. Each student had very interesting topics to share, and should all be proud of their work!

Two of these projects focused on Métis topics, and have great potential to expand knowledge and evidence around their subject. Supervised by RCMR Director and Associate Dean, Dr. Nathalie Kermoal, both students have done compelling research that we're excited to follow up on!

Courtney Webb: "Pushing Past Powley: A Comparative Analysis of the Provincial Implementation of Métis Hunting Rights"

Leah Hrycun: "Get Your Name on the Map: Obtaining Title to Metis River Lots in Edmonton from 1870-1900"

We also heard from Marina Saporito on Indigenous health policy, and Marcie Dear spoke about media coverage of the MMIWG inquiry.
