Research

 The Faculty has contributed significantly to the external research funding dollars acquired by the University of Alberta. The Faculty of Native Studies' record at attracting significant levels of funding along with established research approaches suggests that the Faculty has a continuing important position at a research-intensive university. From the past and current successful research application grants, FNS represents significant continued research-community relationships as follows:

  • Tri-Council funding (SSHRC) was awarded in support of research related to the Historical geographical perspectives of the Métis Nation: The case of the Subarctic Métis, 1850-1911.
  • Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada - aboriginal policy studies (academic journal);
  • Peavine Metis Settlement - Metis Settlement Harvesting Rights

FNS received funding from the Government of Alberta, Ministry of Enterprise and Advanced Education (formerly the Ministry of Advanced Education and Technology) to support an Academic Institute to be housed in the Faculty - The Rupertsland Centre for Metis Research.
