Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)
Bachelor of Arts — Creative, inquisitive and unique. Have you ever questioned how music functions, communicates, and shapes our social and cultural world? The BA in Music program allows students to follow their interests and curiosities through a range of courses combining critical thinking and personal expression. We offer courses that teach you how to listen in new ways, to consider how music can be an object of study across traditions and cultures, and how technologies shape our experience of music both in the past and present. You can explore these topics through writing essays, performing in ensembles, composing, and much more. The BA in Music offers outreach courses and study abroad programs, and no previous formal training is required to be a BA student.
Bachelor of Arts - Honors in Music
This is a four-year program that allows students to study music in a way that emphasizes academic excellence. The degree is ideal preparation for students considering graduate study in musicology, music theory, ethnomusicology, and popular music studies. Like the BA in Music, the Honors degree allows students to pursue their own individual interests and extends this work into a Honors thesis or research creation project.
Admission into the first year of a B.A. Honors program is dependent upon a high matriculation average. Entrance into the Honors in Music program normally takes place at the end of the first year but students can also enter at an earlier or later date depending on the circumstances and if they have the required courses and GPA.
To be eligible to continue in this program route, students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 with an average of 3.3 in music courses. For more information please visit the University Calendar.
Bachelor of Arts - Major or Minor in Music
