Hero Laird, JD (they/them)
Hero serves as Legal Counsel with the Wahkohtowin Law & Governance Lodge and is pursuing an LLM at the University of Alberta. With over 15 years of experience in organizations from the grassroots to the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat at the Government of Canada, Hero has worked with many groups on law and social systems reform, including as a Board Member of Volunteer Alberta, a co-founder of the River City Venture Clinic, and a start-up staff member of the Ontario Nonprofit Network. They are an elected member of the Graduate Student Association's Equity Diversity and Inclusion committee, and Director of the Digital Law & Innovation Society. Hero lives in Amiskwacîwâskahikan / Edmonton, on Treaty 6 territory. You can find Hero hanging out with rocks and trees, meditating, making art and cuddling with family. Pronouns: they/them
Raj Oberoi
Raj graduated from the University of Alberta's Faculty of Law in 2023. Keen to get involved in the local startup community, while in law school, he co-founded RCVLC with several classmates. Carrying that interest into his career, Raj is now a corporate lawyer at LaBarge Weinstein LLP in Ottawa, specializing in guiding companies through all stages of growth, from inception to successful exit. His practice encompasses a range of matters for corporations and venture funds, including securities, corporate financings, mergers and acquisitions, and governance.
