New student wellness and NCA coordinator joins Faculty of Law

From connecting students with resources to listening when students feel overwhelmed, Greg Malchuk, the new student wellness and NCA coordinator, looks forward to supporting wellness initiatives at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law.
“I'm passionate about mental health and wellness and the growing support that it needs, especially recently as a result of the pandemic,” said Malchuk, who will be supporting wellness initiatives in the Faculty.
“I'm a pretty open book, so any issues or concerns that you have about anything I'm willing to talk through it.”
Malchuk earned a bachelor of arts in psychology at Grant MacEwan University and went on to complete a bachelor of education at the U of A. With strengths in active listening, he plans to pursue a master’s degree in counseling in the future.
Prior to joining the Faculty, Malchuk served as a substitute teacher with St. Albert Public Schools. He continues to work part-time as a lifeguard with the City of Edmonton, where he has joined the peer support team within the recreation branch.
“I'm most excited to learn about the Faculty of Law and how to implement activities and events to help students in the best way possible,” Malchuk said.
His best advice to law students as they head into exams? “Don't overthink too much, even though it's easier said than done. Remember to take a break from studying and do things that you enjoy, whether that be going for a walk in the river valley, exercising, or getting a massage.”
“Lastly, reach out to others if you feel overwhelmed. Chances are that a good chunk of other people in your classes feel the same way, so you shouldn't feel like you're alone in those thoughts.”
