Professor Linda C. Reif publishes new edition of renowned text

Professor Linda C. Reif of the University of Alberta Faculty of Law has published a revised second edition of Ombuds Institutions, Good Governance and the International Human Rights System (Brill Nijhoff), providing significant updates and additional material.

Originally published in 2004, the book offers a comprehensive examination of ombuds institutions and their role in the protection and promotion of international and domestic human rights using comparative law and comparative international law approaches.

The second revised edition features new chapters on national human rights ombuds institutions as national human rights institutions (NHRIs), ombuds institutions as national preventive mechanisms under the Protocol to the United Nations Convention against Torture (OPCAT), and the role of ombuds institutions in disability rights protection, gender and women’s rights, international children’s rights, and business and human rights.
