UAlberta Law Professors Tamara Buckwold and Rod Wood and sessional lecturer (and Miller Thomson LLP Partner) Rick Reeson, QC delivered papers at the Legal Education Society of Alberta (LESA) seminar entitled "Personal Property Security and Debt Recovery Essentials" held in Edmonton on May 17 and in Calgary on May 24. Buckwold, a former LESA Board Chair and member, served as chair for the seminar.
The seminar presentations addressed important issues and common challenges in personal property security and debt recovery law. Wood discussed the implications of recent case law and statutory developments in the area of secured transactions, while Buckwold outlined the significant points of intersection between the rights of secured creditors and those of judgment creditors. Reeson highlighted strategies in security enforcement.
Other seminar participants included General Counsel at the Department of Justice Canada and UAlberta Law alumnus Michael Lema, fellow UAlberta Law alum and Miller Thomson LLP (Calgary) partner Michael Morcom, and registry expert Kevin Bauer of Nichols Mountain Consulting in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia.
