Dean Paton Responds to Government of Alberta Market Modifier Announcement, June 2015

22 June 2015

On June 18, 2015, the Government of Alberta announced financial plans until a budget is introduced in the Fall of 2015. If passed, Bill 3: Appropriation (Interim Supply) Act 2015 (No. 2) will "increase post-secondary funding by $133 million to provide stability while working on long-term funding solutions."

The Government's announcement included a roll-back of tuition market modifiers approved earlier this year, including the proposal by the Faculty of Law, but promised that universities will receive base funding to cover losses incurred by the roll-back.

Dean Paton responded in a letter to the Faculty of Law community on June 19, following a response by U of A President Indira Samarasekera. Further information will follow after a letter confirming announcement details and implementation is delivered from the Ministry of Advanced Education expected on June 30, 2015.

A copy of Dean Paton's letter, together with all Market Modifier documents and information, may be found on our Market Modifier page.
