"Stem cells hold tremendous promise in the fight against many forms of illness and disease."
This statement has become somewhat of a mantra for scientists, governments and industry experts and yet, after two decades of hearing about this promise, we're still not there. In the meantime, unregulated clinics have sprouted up all over the globe, selling therapies and cures with no guarantee of success - and potentially a very real risk of harm.
So what's the holdup? Why is it taking so long to make these promised therapies a reality?
The Real Deal on Stem Cell Therapies is a free public symposium being held in Vancouver on June 17, 2014 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) that looks at the research, regulatory, advocacy and media forces that shape our perceptions about stem cell therapies and what's really happening to make these therapies available to Canadian and international patients.
