University of Alberta Faculty of Law Professor Steven Penney recently gave a paper, entitled "The digitization of s. 8 of the Charter: Reform or Revolution" at two national conferences: The Alberta Court of Appeal's Appellate Courts Seminar in Edmonton, April 10, 2014; and the Osgoode Hall Law School 2013 Constitutional Cases Conference in Toronto, April 11, 2014.
Professor Penney's paper assessed the capacity of section 8 of the Charter, which guarantees the right to be "secure against unreasonable search and seizure", to balance privacy and law enforcement interests in the digital age.
