2013 Bennett Jones Health Law moot team: Peter Basta (2L), Mario Babic (2L), Professor Gerald Robertson (team coach), Katherine Fisher (3L), and Renee Bolianatz (2L)
The Bennett Jones Health Law Moot, which is generously sponsored by Bennett Jones LLP, was held in Edmonton on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The moot involved teams from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary.
Although the U of A Faculty of Law team did not win the competition (which according to the judges was very close), they were successful in being selected as having the Best Factum. In addition, Katherine Fisher (3L), from the University of Alberta team, won the prize (kindly donated by Rose Carter, Q.C.) for the Best Oralist from the U of A. The Faculty of Law would like to offer its congratulations to the four members of the U of A team, Mario Babic, Peter Basta, Renee Bolianatz and Katherine Fisher, for their outstanding performance, and to Professor Gerald Robertson on his mentoring of the team. The U of A Bennett Jones Health Law moot team, and their coach Professor Gerald Robertson, would like to thank the Panel of judges - Madam Justice Ellen Picard, Madam Justice Darlene Acton, and John Martland, Q.C. - as well as the lawyers from the Edmonton offices of Bennett Jones LLP who helped judge the practice moots: Sarah Becker, Erinn O'Brien, Simon Johnson, Sarah McClune, Morgan Edgar, and Michael Sestito. In addition, the team would like to thank Renee Hunt and Kim Cordeiro for all their help.
"All four members of the UofA team did an outstanding job, both in the preparation of their factums and in their oral presentations," said moot coach Professor Gerald Robertson. "As always, I am very grateful to Bennett Jones LLP for their generous support of this important moot competition."
