U of A Faculty of Law would like to congratulate Nicole Aylwin and Professor Catherine Bell on recently being awarded $15,000 in funding

Catherine Bell (U of A Faculty of Law professor) and Nicole Aylwin (Academic Research Coordinator York Centre for Public Policy and Law, and IPinCH Research Fellow) were recently awarded a $15,000 grant. The funding will go towards work on policy questions related to community driven policy making in aboriginal communities.

U of A Faculty of Law Professor Catherine Bell, and Nicole Aylwin (Academic Research Coordinator York Centre for Public Policy and Law, and IPinCH Research Fellow) awarded $15,000 in funding.

The Faculty of Law would like to congratulate Nicole Aylwin (Academic Research Coordinator York Centre for Public Policy and Law, and IPinCH Research Fellow) and Catherine Bell (Professor of Law at U of A, and IPinCH Steering Committee Member) on recently being awarded $15,000 in funding to work in collaboration with the Canadian Forum on Civil Justice (as part of the CURA: Costs of Justice Project) and the York Centre for Public Policy and Law on policy questions related to community driven policy making in aboriginal communities.

The grant will help fund the hosting of a workshop in the Yukon in March 2013 which will bring together Yukon First Nation representatives, policy makers and legal experts to explore how to use non-tangible values emerging from ethnographic research (e.g. balance, respect, integrity, and responsibility) and Indigenous law to create policy, government practice, and legislation in the area of heritage by self-governing Yukon First Nations. This forum builds on legal ethnographic work conducted by them in collaboration with the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, Carcross-Tagish First Nation, Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation, and the Ta'an Kwach'än Council funded independently by the SSHRC Intellectual Property Issues in Cultural Heritage Multi-Research Collaboration.
