Law alumni named as 2013 Top 40 Under 40

Katherine Thompson - 1 November 2013

University of Alberta Faculty of Law and University of Alberta School of Business alumna Jennifer Flynn (LL.B. '99) and Faculty of Law alumnus Arman Chak (LL.B. '99) named Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Edmonton.

Jennifer Flynn, 38, is the Executive Director of the Legal Education Society of Alberta, Director of the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education of Alberta (CPLED), and Arman Chak, 39, is the Legal Counsel with the Alberta Human Rights Commission.

Arman was named as a 'Top 40 Under 40' for being the youngest person to hold the position of legal counsel with the Alberta Human Rights Commission and for his work as a filmmaker and supporter of the art form. When asked by Avenue Edmonton about deciding to take a different path with his career, changing from working in the film industry to go back to law school to study law, and ultimately work in the legal field, Arman replied:

"I can't think of anything more rewarding than helping a family go through a legal issue and find resolution in a reasonable period of time."

Jennifer was named as a 'Top 40 Under 40' for dedicating her work and volunteer time to ensuring that Alberta articling students and lawyers receive the support they require for their continuing education. Jennifer is quoted in the Avenue Edmonton article as saying that the thing she likes most about Edmonton is the University of Alberta.

"The university. Physically, I love it - the architecture and the buildings and being able to walk through and see how things have changed through that lens. We are very fortunate here to have such an intersection of really bright minds and talent in so many different areas."
