On August 24th, the Faculty of Law held its annual Sessional Instructors dinner at the Faculty Club to recognize the contributions made annually by sessional instructors to the faculty and its students. The Sessionals Dinner is one way in which the Faculty of Law expresses gratitude for all the hard work that our sessional instructors do throughout the year.

After a short reception, the group sat down for a great dinner.

Vice Dean John Law welcomed the sessionals for the 2011/12 year. Some new sessionals are; Sandra Corbett (Law 519: Insurance Law), Jane Fagnan (Law 405: Legal Research & Writing), Karen Hewitt (Law 599: Advanced Criminal Trial Advocacy), Cameron Jefferies (Law 402: Foundations to Law, Law 593: International Environmental Law), Kevin Kimmis (Law 405: Legal Research & Writing), Debra Curcio Lister (Law 452: Civil Procedure), Robert McBean (Law 516: Dispute Resolution), Christine Pratt (Law 519: Insurance Law), Naomi Schmold (Law 405: Legal Research & Writing) and Ian Wachowicz (Law 608: Advocacy).

Dean Philip Bryden then spoke about the contributions of the sessionals and their passion for teaching law to the next generation of lawyers.

He noted that 58 of 151 of sections were taught by sixty four sessionals, which increased slightly from the previous year. The Dean also noted that Faculties of Law across the country also rely on sessional instructors to provide quality legal educations to their students.

"We all know you don't do it for the money," Dean Bryden quipped. "For many, your key motivation is to serve the profession and help train the next generation of lawyers. Others find enjoyment teaching and interacting with students. However, whatever your motivations are, we truly appreciate the time and effort everyone one of you makes. "

Dean Bryden also discussed plans for the Faculty's upcoming Centenary (2012-13), mentioning the three key events; a gala dinner, a special convocation and an international legal conference.
