Susan Rawlings
Susan Rawlings is this year's Aboriginal Law Society Association President. Prior to coming to the Faculty of Law, she received a degree in Medical Laboratory Science and worked at the Royal Alexandria Hospital blood bank and the microbiology department at the University of Alberta Hospital. Her mother is both First Nations and Metis, while her father is English. She is currently working in the Youth Criminal Defence office and after graduating, will be articling with Ackroyd LLP, because "they do a lot of aboriginal, treaty and title law, in addition to corporate law."
The ALSA's goal is to bring awareness of aboriginal issues to the fore. It does so through it annual Speaker Series in March and each year, members of the ALSA participate in the Indigenous Bar Association Conference. The ALSA also supports new aboriginal students and holds a variety of events throughout the year to engage the student body and faculty. It also strives to maintain an excellent relationship with the Dean and the faculty. She recently took a trip to Hobbema, where they toured the town and met with band members.
