The Faculty of Law and Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences are pleased to announce the appointment of the inaugural Katz Group Chair in Health Law and the Katz Group Research Fellow in Health Law. These positions were created with the generous support of a donation of $2 million from the Katz Group of Companies. Dean Philip Bryden of the Faculty of Law and Dean James Kehrer of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences stated: "We are delighted that the generosity of the Katz Group of Companies has enabled us to strengthen the links between our two Faculties and enhance our commitment to research and teaching in the area of health law and ethics."

Professor Gerald Robertson, Q.C. was appointed as the Katz Group Chair in Health Law and will collaborate on lectures for student pharmacists in health ethics, health law and federal and provincial legislation. Professor Robertson is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh (LL.B.) and McGill University (LL.M.) and has been a member of the University of Alberta's Faculty of Law since 1983. He is one of Canada's leading health law researchers. In addition to numerous articles and book chapters, his publications include Mental Disability and the Law in Canada, currently in its second edition. He is also the co-author of Elder Abuse and Neglect in Canada and the fourth edition of Legal Liability of Doctors and Hospitals in Canada. Professor Robertson will continue to conduct research in the health law field during his three-year renewable appointment as the Katz Group Chair in Health Law. He will also be teaching a seminar in Law in Medicine after returning in the summer of 2012 from a six month sabbatical.

Ubaka Ogbogu was appointed Assistant Professor and Katz Group Research Fellow in Health Law. He is a graduate of the University of Benin (LL.B.) and the University of Alberta (LL.M.) and is currently completing doctoral studies in law at the University of Toronto. Professor Ogbogu will build research and teaching links between the Faculties of Law and Pharmacy as well as conduct his own research in the field of health law. He is also co-teaching a course in Pharmacy Law and Ethics at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
