Russia's attack on Ukraine has deeply undermined the treaties and peace settlements after the Second World War and poses new challenges to the security of Europe. The project's goal is to outline the bases of Russia's neo-imperialist revival and examine the various possibilities for ensuring the future security of Europe. Though there are no immediate prospects of ending the conflict, it is relevant to assess which agencies can play a role in the postwar situation. In this regard, we contend that nontraditional agencies beyond the UN and OSCE, may play key roles. At the heart of the project is the future of Ukraine and how to avoid the failures of past security agreements (1991 in Brest, with Russia and Belarus; 1994 in Budapest with USA, UK, and Russia; and 1997 and 2010 with Russia). We will focus in particular on the questions: how do global and regional organizations shape the conflict and its resolution? How does Russia’s war on Ukraine shape the EU’s external policies?
