The Kule Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS) is organizing AI, Ethics and Society and associated activities. KIAS is a major endowed institute that supports research in humanities, arts and social sciences. KIAS is providing the leadership and financial support as a way of building a community of research in Alberta to match the scientific excellence in this area. KIAS has committed to developing the area at the UAlberta with a multi-year strategy initiated by this conference.

The Department of Philosophy and School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) at the University of Alberta have developed expertise and curriculum in ethics. The Department of Philosophy recently started an Undergraduate Certificate in Ethics. KIAS Director Geoffrey Rockwell is a philosopher who teaches Information Ethics in the MA programme in Digital Humanities (the oldest and largest such programme in Canada). SLIS faculty have also developed expertise in information ethics publishing and organizing conferences in the field. This conference creates a context for closer collaboration, especially in development of a shared Edmonton Agenda: Ethics and Social Impact of AI; Research and Education.

IEEE. Leading industry expert IEEE, the world's largest association of technical professionals, have led the way in collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects in AI Ethics. The IEEE's Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems has amassed the largest consortium of experts to date via their Ethically Aligned Design project, developing 13 new standards specifically dedicated to ethics in autonomous and intelligent systems. IEEE have contributed funding to attend and organize the panel "From Principles to Practice - Creating the Standards for Ethically Aligned Design."

ATB Financial. The Alberta Treasury Branch is a defining voice in AI innovation and machine-learning research via their ATB AI Lab initiative. Partnering with the University of Alberta for the conference and beyond, ATB AI aims to become a global leader in AI research and innovation. Their contribution to the conference targets both industry and public through collaboration with scholarship at the University.

The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) combines scientific research with business towards the creation of a machine intelligence ecosystem for Alberta's growing AI sector. Working with academics and scientists locally, Amii pushes the relationship between business and AI innovation, aiming for new levels of collaboration within industry.
