Congress 2021: MMIWG Calls for Justice; Indigenous Women on Rising Up

This Friday, May 28th, 2021 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Intersections of Gender will be hosting the event "MMIWG Calls for Justice; Indigenous Women on Rising Up", created by Dr. Rebecca Sockbeson for Congress 2021.
This series of talks will share thinking and address findings of the 2019 Final Report of the National Inquiry into (MMIWG) Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls from Indigenous activists, community centered scholars and organizers. The program also offers performances of Indigenous artists as creative expressions of impact to the realities of MMIWG. The report generated 231 “Calls for Justice '' identified as legal imperatives, this series of discussions seeks to mobilize action for MMIWG in the academy with the intention to impact the education system and society at large. Please join host Rebecca Sockbeson and Commmissioner Michele Audette alongside the folloowing presenters: Winona LaDuke (Ojibwe, White Earth Reservation, Wisconsin), Internationally Renowned Indigenous Rights Activist & Author; Dr. Claudine Louis (Cree), President, Maskwacis Cultural College; Dr. Alex Wilson (Cree & Two Spirit), Associate Professor, University of Saskatoon; Dr. Lana Whiskeyjack (Cree) Artist, Assistant Professor, University of Alberta; Stephanie Harpe (Dene/Cree), Community Organizer, Performance Artist & International Advocate for MMIWG; Lisa Weber (Metis), President of Institute for Advancement of Aboriginal Women (IAAW) & Legal Counsel; and Fawn Wood (Cree) who will sing in honour of MMIWG and Diane LaFleur (Cree), Coordinator of Educational Programs, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, who will perform a closing song.
