Undergraduate students will be registered in:

CLASS 475 - FIELD TECHNIQUES IN CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY

• Assessment and recording of visible architectural remains. How do you spot architectural remains in a landscape? Learn how to recognize foundations, walls, architectural elements and quarries.
• Archaeological Surface Survey Strategies. Learn the various strategies in field-walking and artefact sampling.
• DGPS, Photogrammetry, and airborne remote sensing techniques in mapping landscapes
• The relevance of Geographical Information Systems in archaeological research

AND

CLASS 476 ADVANCED FIELD - TECHNIQUES IN CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY

• Recording, processing and dating of artifacts (Neolithic to Modern times). This includes drawing, describing and photographing various types of artifacts, such as pottery and metal implements. You will learn to recognize and date the objects found during the survey and you will help in processing them.
• The variety in Ancient Greek settlement structures and mortuary culture. We will be visiting examples in the region and in museums.
• The context and history of Achaia Phthiotis, a semi-independent region in central Greece. We will visit museums and other sites in the region as part of the course.

Graduate students will be registered in:

CLASS 601 & CLASS 602 - STUDIES IN CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY I AND II

CLASS 601 SEM 900 and CLASS 602 SEM 900

• Apart from the necessary course modules, students will work on independent study topics, in discussion with the project directors.

**Please note: Upon acceptance of your application, the Department of History and Classics will look after registering ALL field school students in ALL the necessary courses associated with the field school.
