Our Talks and Speakers
The Department of English and Film Studies hosts a diverse and stimulating series of talks and research events each year.
Our standing events are the Edmund Kemper Broadus Lectures (a lecture series each year in the fall), the F.M. Salter Lecture on Language (alternating years in the winter), and the Orlando Lecture (alternating years in the winter). Each year we also host one or two Distinguished Visitors, who stay for a week and give a lecture series, as well as various Visiting Speakers. Many of our external speakers offer graduate seminars and hold office hours while they are here.
The lectures are always free and open to the public.
