What is shelter in place?

In an emergency, you may be directed to "shelter in place" as a precautionary measure to keep you in a safe indoor location.
Enter the nearest building if you are not already indoors.

If you are instructed to shelter in place

  1. Enter the nearest building if you are not already indoors
  2. Turn off fans, heating and air conditioning systems
  3. Monitor your university email and website for updates and instructions

Be Prepared to shelter in place

Spend a few moments evaluating your workplace, classroom, or other places you frequent. Identify spots that could provide shelter if needed.
