George Lingle Global Citizenship Travel Award

Preparing students to become informed and active global citizens, aware of their capacity to effect meaningful change in their communities, society and the world, is increasingly important in a globalized, interdependent world.

George Lingle created this award because of the rewarding and valuable experiences he has had teaching in several international settings. George taught in Zimbabwe, Australia, England, Korea, Thailand and Canada and felt that his personal journey teaching in these places not only made him a better individual and teacher, but gave him the tools to develop his students into Global Citizens by nurturing their cultural understanding and competence. Every year, this award, is presented to University of Alberta Education students, with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in any year of a Bachelor of Education degree and registered in an education course with an international experience component. Selection is based on the student's demonstration, in the essay portion of the award application, of exceptional understanding of the potential connections between the course and their personal and professional life. The secondary criteria will be based on academic achievement. Through this award, George is sharing his spirit of adventure and the value he places on experiential learning and teaching.
