Faculty of Education welcomes two new assistant professors

The Faculty of Education is pleased to announce that Sarah Auger and Dr. Darlene Auger have accepted tenure-track positions as Assistant Professors in the Faculty of Education effective July 1, 2023. Sarah and Darlene will both lend their expertise and support to the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) and Indigenous Peoples Education Program. Sarah, a citizen of Mikisew Cree First Nation, Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, is currently a PhD Candidate in Educational Policy Studies with a specialization in Indigenous Peoples Education. Her doctoral research examines Indigenous art as pedagogy and she also holds an MEd in Educational Policy Studies (2012) and a BA in Native Studies (1999). Currently, Sarah serves as the Coordinator for the Indigenous Prison Art and Education Project, where she helps to facilitate Walls 2 Bridges for-credit university courses inside the Edmonton Institution for Women, a federal prison. She has also taught a policy course in Human Ecology and served as both a teaching and a research assistant within the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta.
Darlene is an educator, researcher, holistic practitioner, performance artist and author. She holds a psychology degree from the University of Alberta and a doctoral degree from the University nuhelot’įne thaiyots’į nistameyimâkanak Blue Quills in Iyiniw Pimâtisiwin Kiskeyihtamowin (Indigenous Life Knowledge). Darlene is currently completing a master’s degree in Indigenous Social Work and teaches Indigenous Research Methodologies at the University of Blue Quills. She is an accomplished facilitator, having presented locally, nationally, and abroad and has developed and administered numerous projects and programs; the most recent being an Early Childhood Cree Cultural Resource kit.
