The Department of Elementary Education proudly celebrates the success of our colleagues Drs. Mijung Kim and Suzanna Wong who won the Best Paper Award at this year's International Science Education Conference.
Kim, a professor of science education, and Wong, a postdoctoral fellow in childhood literacy, presented their paper "Children's Critical Literacy Skills on Scientific Environmental Problem Solving" at the conference in Singapore.
The award is adjudicated based on the following criteria:
- Relevance and significance of topic and research to the field
- Clarity of research question
- Thoroughness and quality of literature review
- Appropriateness of methodology for study
- Quality and completeness of analysis
- Clarity and soundness of conclusions
- Promotion of a continuing research agenda or improved professional practices
- Overall quality demonstrating coherence and reasoning
- Contribution to the cumulative knowledge base of the field
Department Chair Maryanne Doherty says the award demonstrates the scholarship excellence of the two researchers.
"Not only does this prestigious award prove what we know about Mijung and Suzanna's incredible work, but it enhances the reputation of our faculty and university internationally."
