The Department of Elementary Education celebrated the Edmonton Peace Festival by painting two peace poles. One course, EDEL 302: Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary School Art, integrated the painting of a peace pole into the class curriculum.

"The peace pole project connects with issues of social justice, which is an area of vital importance for our graduates," said Patti Pente, professor and course instructor. "By participating creatively in the design and painting of the peace pole, students have an opportunity to personally experience a collaboration that speaks directly to their understanding of how art can affect social change."
