The following undergraduate awards in relation to East Asian Studies are available:
Field of Study: East Asian Studies-Chinese Studies
Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the second or subsequent years of an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated excellence in Chinese coursework. Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need. Students in receipt of awards totaling $2000 or more are not eligible for this scholarship.
Funded by: Endowed through funds raised from the Melody of Spring concert hosted by the Chinese community in 1998.
Field of Study: Chinese Studies
Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the second or third year of an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated excellence in Chinese coursework.

Field of Study: Open
Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement convocating with an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated excellence in Chinese coursework. Preference given to a student who intends to complete a Master of Arts in East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta.

Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic standing.

Field of Study: Chinese Literature
Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the third or subsequent year of an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated achievement in three senior-level Chinese literature courses. Preference given to a student with demonstrated interest in pursuing a graduate degree in Chinese literature and culture.

Field of Study: East Asian Studies, Japanese Studies
Conditions: Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement enrolled in the third or subsequent years of an undergraduate degree in honors or major in East Asian Studies. Selection based on academic standing and demonstrated excellence in Japanese coursework.
Funded by: Endowed by the University of Alberta to commemorate the Honourable Dr Tatsuo Ozawa's ongoing commitment to the University and his efforts at furthering international relations between Japan and Canada.
Field of Study: East Asian Studies
Conditions: Awarded to a student who is a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident with satisfactory academic standing enrolled in the second or subsequent years of East Asian Studies. Selection is based on academic standing and demonstrated interest in East Asian culture, history, and language. Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need.
Funded by: Endowed by friends and family of the late Guy Stuart Phillips to encourage individuals not familiar with the culture, history, and languages of East Asia to pursue studies in these areas.

This award was created to honor Sandy A Mactaggart for his many contributions to the University of Alberta. Mr Mactaggart spent ten years on the Board of Governors, four years as Chancellor and Chair of the Senate, and six months as Interim Chair of the Board.
The Sandy Mactaggart Award is given to University of Alberta undergraduate or graduate students to assist them in undertaking study abroad for one or more semesters in Asia as part of a University of Alberta degree.
Eligibility
Candidates must:

Have submitted an application for exchange to the Education Abroad office demonstrating that you are planning to study for at least one semester in Asia for the 2019 - 2020 academic year

Be continuing undergraduate or graduate students

Have satisfactory academic standing

Study in Asia for at least one semester

Demonstrate ability to benefit from pursuing academic studies in Asia, show an interest in learning more about Asian peoples and cultures, and show an interest in fostering international understanding

Awarded to University of Alberta undergraduate students with superior academic achievement nominated to participate on an international academic exchange with a formally recognized partner institution in China and Hong Kong.
