EASIA 101: Understanding East Asia

This course introduces the study of East Asian civilizations, focusing on examples from China, Korea, and Japan from ancient times to the present. In addition to learning about important cultural phenomena from throughout East Asia, students will learn how to design and conduct innovative research projects on the arts and cultures of East Asia. Topics addressed include Buddhism in premodern times, short stories and novels from the early 20th century, and manga and pop culture in the present. This class is also a prerequisite for many other EASIA courses!
