DRAMA Event | Hamlet for Tears, Shamlet for Laughs, and Shams for Misremembrance: From High Tragedy to Comic Parody in a Taiwanese Rewrite of a Shakespearean Classic
Thursday, September 5, 2024
3:30 p.m. MST
Lobby, Timms Centre for the Arts
Shamlet is a rollicking send-up of Shakespeare’s grim tragedy of Hamlet. The Taiwanese version is a meta-drama that depicts a bumbling theatre troupe trying to stage Hamlet. In this workshop, Dr. Joubin will enlist a group of University of Alberta Drama students to read and bring to life an excerpt of Act 2 of Shamlet, and then offer an analysis of the play. A reception will follow the presentation. All are welcome.
