Welcome William Carroll, PhD, Assistant Professor of Modern Japanese Cultural Studies

We are pleased to announce that William Carroll, PhD, will be joining the Department of East Asian Studies as Assistant Professor of Modern Japanese Cultural Studies for the 2022-2023 academic year. William Carroll holds a joint PhD in Cinema and Media Studies and East Asian Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago and is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at Duke University. As a scholar of modern and contemporary Japanese culture, particularly of Japanese media culture and industry, he brings expertise to the Department of East Asian Studies that opens up many exciting new possibilities for the study of Japan and East Asia at the University of Alberta.
