Human Geography

Human Geography focuses on the relationships between human societies and the built and natural environments in which they operate.  We apply geographical concepts – such as location, space, scale, place and landscape – to practical issues and challenges in order to understand and improve the world around us.

Students in our programs explore the diverse peoples, places and cultures that make up our world, and the shared challenges we face. Working with leading geographers, they acquire first-hand experience of the world through experiential learning techniques focused on real world issues and challenges in areas such as housing, hazards and health. They develop skills in Geographical Information Systems and learn how to use spatial data to identify problems and propose solutions. If you’ve ever wondered about how to build better cities and healthier, more sustainable communities, then Human Geography could be for you!
