Dean of Students' Service Excellence Awards

NOTICE:
To support physical distancing benefits in regards to the spread of COVID-19, we will be postponing the DoS Service Excellence Award ceremony and extending the deadline for nomination submissions until further notice.
The Office of the Dean of Students (DoS) Service Excellence Awards recognize excellence in the work of our dedicated DoS portfolio team members including full-time and part-time staff/contractors, student-employees, and volunteers across all U of A campuses.

Student Nominations

Students are encouraged to submit nominations for the following award category:

Student-Nominated Award

Current undergraduate or graduate students may nominate an individual employed in the DoS portfolio who has gone above and beyond in providing a service. The nominator must explain how the individual exhibited exemplary service using a specific example to illustrate.

Student and Staff Nominations

Students and staff are encouraged to submit nominations for the following award categories:

Student-Staff Award

Current undergraduate or graduate students may nominate an individual employed in the DoS portfolio who has gone above and beyond in providing a service. The nominator must explain how the individual exhibited exemplary service using a specific example to illustrate.

Volunteer Award
Students or DoS staff may nominate a volunteer who has contributed above and beyond expectations. Nomination letters should indicate in what capacity the volunteer has served, how they exceeded expectations, and how the volunteer made a difference to the service. Please note that this award category excludes DoS employees who are serving in a volunteer capacity.

Staff Nominations

Staff are encouraged to submit nominations for the following award categories:

Leadership Award

Being a leader at work involves more than a job title or level of responsibility. Staff may nominate a peer employed in the Dean of Students portfolio who exemplifies outstanding leadership qualities. This award highlights staff members who connect with others through meaningful actions and communications, demonstrate reflective and effective practices on the job, work toward resilience and creativity when faced with challenges, and inspire and encourage teammates towards success.

Peer-Nominated Award

DoS staff members may nominate a peer who is/has excelled in their role. Nomination letters should specify using examples to illustrate the nominee’s qualities leading them to excel in their job. Please note that a nominee’s manager cannot be the primary nominator but can support a nomination.

Nomination Process

Nomination submissions will remain open until further notice. All nominations are confidential and will remain anonymous, though the information provided on the nomination forms may be read at the awards ceremony.

Recipients will receive a plaque, gift card, and a letter of recognition from the Vice-Provost and Dean of Students.
