Indigenous Programming
Camp fYrefly offers access to a wide range of mentors and supports. As part of our goal to provide campers with a culturally-safe environment, we work with local Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers to provide education and support. We are committed to continued exploration of how we can align our operations with the Truth & Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Report.
This commitment includes:
- Acknowledge each traditional territory and treaty that each site operates on;
- Develop and strengthen relationships with nearby Indigenous communities and their Elders and/or Knowledge Keepers;
- Collaborate with an Elder and/or Knowledge Keeper to provide opportunities for Indigenous-led programming at Camp fYrefly;
- Ensure Indigenous campers have access to an Elder or Knowledge Keeper at Camp fYrefly;
- Increase awareness of Indigenous histories, language, and culture to promote reconciliation and revitalization.
