The New Alberta Contemporaries Exhibition Features Art Work by U of A Students

The ESKER Foundation in Calgary has opened an expansive new gallery space. The inaugural exhibition, The New Alberta Contemporaries, has been described as a "snapshot of emerging contemporary art in Alberta. It's a celebration of rising talent, a gathering point for dialogue, and exchange of ideas, and interaction of the province's art institutions."

The ESKER Foundation in Calgary has opened an expansive new gallery space. The inaugural exhibition, The New Alberta Contemporaries, has been described as a "snapshot of emerging contemporary art in Alberta. It's a celebration of rising talent, a gathering point for dialogue, and exchange of ideas, and interaction of the province's art institutions."

44 young artists are included in this exhibition of work selected from students enrolled in (or recently graduated from) post secondary institutions across Alberta. The art works of 18 current and former

U of A Art and Design students are highlighted within this prestigious group exhibition curated by independent curator Caterina Pizanias.

The Department of Art and Design is proud of the accomplishments of recent graduates and current students: Nika Blasser, Anna Gaby-Trotz, Yan Geng, Jill Ho-You, Andrea Kastner, Anne- Marie King, Lindsay Knox, Edith Krause, Galia Kwetny, Colin Lyons, Emma McLay, Maria Madacky, Patrick J. Reed, Richard Smolinski, Hope Angelique Wells, Ben Williamson, Ryan Wolters and Michelle Yong. We hope The New Alberta Contemporaries exhibition marks the beginning of a productive and rewarding artistic practice for our students.
