Application Deadlines

MEd PROGRAM APPLICATIONS

Applications for the Master of Education (MEd) programs are accepted for admission to the Fall and Winter terms.

MEd applications open November 1 and close March 1.

It is HIGHLY recommended that international applicants to the MEd program apply for Fall term admission.

Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Landed Immigrant, and International* Applicants

Important Note: All items must be received by the application deadline including reference letters. Therefore, please ensure that your completed application for admission is submitted two weeks prior to the deadline. 

DOCTORAL PROGRAM APPLICATIONS

Applications for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program are accepted for admission to the Fall term only.

The doctoral program (PhD) applications open October 15 and close December 1.

Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, Landed Immigrant, and International Applicants

Important Note: All items, including reference letters, must be received by the application deadline. Therefore, please ensure that your application for admission is submitted two weeks prior to the deadline. 

Under special circumstances, applications received after the deadline may be considered.


APPLICATION NOTES

For all Programs: Please be prepared to take electives the first year of your program if core courses are not available.

Admission Decisions: Decisions can take two to three months after the application deadline for the review process to be entirely completed.

*International Applicants: After an admissions decision is made, international students will need time to obtain their study visa and arrive in Canada.

For the 2025-2026 academic year, the Faculty of Education will only consider applicants to the PhD program with full-time status if they meet one of the following conditions: 

  • Remains professionally employed at or above .5 FTE (this includes four over five arrangements) during their studies. 
  • Has a supervisor who has expressed in writing the ability and intention of funding the student to $25,000 for each of the first two years (this includes financial co-sponsorship with another faculty member).
  • Is applying as an Indigenous student (1 studentship) or a member of an equity-denied group (1 studentship). 
  • Is sponsored by an external agency at or above $25,000 per year or has an external scholarship at or above $25,000.
