Admission Requirements
You are eligible for an exchange to UAlberta if you satisfy ALL of the following, relevant conditions:
- You are a student at an institution that has a student exchange agreement with UAlberta.
- A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UAlberta and your home institution is NOT sufficient; a student exchange agreement must also exist.
- You need to be registered as a full-time student at your home institution at the time of your application and while you are on exchange at UAlberta.
- You have a cumulative GPA equivalent to at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale at the time of your application.
- You need to satisfy the relevant undergraduate English proficiency requirements or graduate English proficiency requirements at the time of your application. Please note that:
- Some departments and faculties have higher English proficiency requirements for graduate students than those shown through the relevant link provided above. It is your responsibility to determine, before applying, the minimum English proficiency that you will need to demonstrate.
- Undergraduate students and graduate students from certain countries or international universities may not have to demonstrate English proficiency.
- If you wish to apply for a graduate-level exchange then you must:
- have already completed an undergraduate degree or its equivalent,
- be registered in a graduate-level program at the time of your application, and ...
- have grade results from at least one semester/term in your graduate program at the time of your application
Some UAlberta faculties have other and/or higher requirements:
The Alberta School of Business also requires that you have:
- completed introductory-level statistics, calculus, microeconomics, and macroeconomics coursework by the time of application,
- completed at least 4 semesters in a business program by the time the exchange program starts, and ...
- a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
The Faculty of Engineering also requires that you have:
- completed at least 4 semesters in an engineering program by the time the exchange program starts and ...
- a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation also requires that you be enrolled in a similar program at your home institution
This faculty is NOT open to students participating in the National Student Exchange (NSE) programThe Faculty of Law also requires that you:
- be enrolled in a law program at your home institution and ...
- have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
Please note that students interested in an undergraduate-level exchange to UAlberta's Faculty of Law Juris Doctor program should know that it is an after-degree, professional program. The other students in the program will each have at least a 3-year bachelor's degree. Students without similar academic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to discuss their plans with academic advisors at their home institutions before applying for the exchange and seek permission to, if need be, take fewer than the maximum number of courses allowable per term while on exchange.
