Sophie Collins

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Rehabilitation Medicine

“The biggest challenge I faced during my PhD journey was navigating graduate studies through the COVID-19 pandemic, which struck only a few months into my program. Adapting to remote work, attempting to complete an RCT and managing the inherent stress and isolation posed significant hurdles,” says Sophie.

Sophie is receiving her PhD in rehabilitation science, specializing in chronic cardiopulmonary disease. Drawn by the numerous unanswered research questions and the chance to enhance patient outcomes, she found her calling in this field. Working directly with patients and seeing her research impact their lives has been incredibly rewarding.

“Embrace the process wholeheartedly. This period of academic pursuit offers unparalleled opportunities for growth and learning,” says Sophie.

The next chapter of Sophie’s academic journey involves continuing her research pursuits and contributing to advancing knowledge in the field of pulmonary physiology as a postdoctoral fellow at McGill University.
