Eligibility
Students must be registered in full-time study in a graduate degree program in the School of Public Health and have a minimum of a satisfactory academic standing. Preference will be given to students from any of the Canadian northern territories. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement and demonstrated community involvement.
Application
Eligible applicants must provide:
- A completed a Scholarship and Award Application Form, including the general appraisal
- A current curriculum vitae
- A current, unofficial University of Alberta transcript to sph.programs@ualberta.ca.
Eligible students should submit the form and CV as one Word format document to sph.programs@ualberta.ca by 12:00 noon on Monday, May 27, 2019
NOTE: Newly admitted students for Fall 2019 are required to submit copies of all of their transcripts.

This award was established by Kue Young, dean of the School of Public Health (2013-2018), in memory of his sister Kitty Huang, who passed away in Toronto in 2015.
Kitty Huang was an educator in Hong Kong, serving as teacher, administrator and school inspector. After her retirement, she immigrated to Canada. Her devotion and commitment to education made a strong impact on her students. Decades later many of her former students, who were scattered around the world, continued to keep in touch with her and held annual dinners in her honour. She was a leader in the boy scouts movement, becoming the first woman Scouts Commissioner for Hong Kong. Also unusual for a woman in Chinese society, she played semi-professional basketball in the 1950s and travelled with her team all over Southeast Asia. After settling in Toronto, she became an ardent fan of the Raptors.
Dr. Young wanted to honour his late sister by creating this award. Through personal example, she impressed upon him yearning for learning, respect for others, and never to forget working for the common good.
