Mission

The foundation of all our work is integrating Indigenous ways of knowing and being with archaeology, which in turn supports our efforts to:

  • Facilitate and promote Indigenous-engaged and archaeological and heritage practice, policy, and pedagogy in western Canada and beyond;
  • Support a vibrant community of researchers and learners, connected with Indigenous communities; and,
  • Implement impactful and transformative research and pedagogy that integrates Indigenous ways of knowing and being to reconcile the past for the future

Our mission centres on three pillars around which we design our research; Practice, Pedagogy, and Policy. Like strands of sweetgrass, these are woven together through good relations to create a vibrant community of scholars and partners that collaboratively work on issues important to Indigenous communities, locally and nationally.
