5.2 Delegated Authority from FGSR


Delegated Authority from Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research

In 2013, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research Council approved delegating the decision-making authority from the Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research to the individual Departments for some administrative decisions. Therefore, final decision in the following situations will rest with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, with no secondary approval being required.

  • Admissions (except for admission of a student from a doctoral program at another institution)
  • Readmissions
  • Transfer of a graduate student form one University Department to another
  • Approval of the membership of a supervisory committee
  • Approval of the membership of a doctoral candidacy examination committee
  • Restricting access to a thesis
  • First extension of the time limit for program completion
  • First extension of the time limit for completion of program requirements
  • Approval of leaves of absence on medical or parental grounds (negative decisions can be appealed to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research)

An initial decision in the following situations will rest with the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, with the final decision made by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Dean.

  • Approval of the appointment of a supervisor
  • Approval of the appointment of a final examining committee (master's or doctoral)
  • Approval of the appointment of an external examiner/reader for a doctoral final examination
